Multimode fiber remains the preferred economic calbing media in the data center due to its advantage of utilizing relatively inexpensive transceivers over short (<20m) or long (>120m) links in the data center. While multimode fiber may be considered to have limitations for links longer than 300m and for channels requiring several connections (increasing insertion loss) in this paper we will explore the possibility of pushing beyond the standard limits for channel length and loss.
