With the 100G optics reaching technology and cost maturity, and going full speed for deployment in data centers, the industry is looking at 400G with hyperscale data centers being the main drivers. At OFC 2018, we learned about the different implementations of 400G – whose variants include 8 lane MMF solutions like 400G-SR16, the 8 channel CWDM option, and a 100G per lane PSM4 implementation. Other things to consider are the form factors, time to market, and the impact of 400G on cabling and connectivity.
