Private networks in premises and campus environments are moving towards high-speed applications such as Gigabit Ethernet in order to handle the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements for faster data transmission. To achieve faster data transmission rates, 1 or 10 Gigabit Ethernet network devices like routers and switches must use high-speed laser light sources rather than the slower light emitting diode (LED) sources.
