Passive Optical Networks (PONs) are increasingly viewed as a key element of future high-capacity broadband networks. The transmission capacity of optical fiber presently provides adequate capability for delivery of high-speed services. However, PON standards and networks must evolve, in order to meet future capacity demands. This session will look at the emerging XGS-PON and NG-PON2 standards, and the challenges associated with their deployment.
