Introduced in the UK, Germany, Australia, and the Netherlands at the turn of the century, the first network sharing agreements were conceived as a way of helping wireless operators to offset the high cost of launching 3G services in hard-to-cover areas. Dr. Mohamed Nadder Hamdy, director mobility network engineering, bylined this article about how any move to network sharing will be driven by the need to maximize enterprise value, the major benefit being a net reduction of between 10 and 40 percent in CapEx and OpEx, dependent on the option chosen.
