Leveraging Single Pair Ethernet In Building Automation

There are numerous efforts to take Ethernet to the edge devices but network fragmentation has resulted in multiple communication networks coexisting in building automation – heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) applications use Modbus, access control uses BACnet, lighting uses LonWorks and fire safety uses Ethernet. Single Pair Ethernet offers a simplified solution that could support all these devices and offer direct accessibility for the control system, status updates, predictive maintenance, standardized hardware and interoperability across various systems.

Is IO-Link with Single Pair Ethernet the Future?

20 meters. That is the maximum distance between an IO-Link master port and an IO-Link device using a standard prox cable. By using SPE, we gain the Ethernet cable length advantage. So, instead of being limited to 20 meters, your IO-Link cabling could stretch to 100 meters! Imagine the opportunities that opens in industrial applications. It is possible that even longer runs will be achievable.

100GbE data center shipments surpass 10GbE for first time: Report

Total shipments of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) data center switch ports increased more than 20% during the full year of 2020, according to a recent report from Crehan Research Inc.
This robust increase, combined with a continuing decline in 10GbE shipments, resulted in 100GbE surpassing 10GbE to become the most widely deployed data center Ethernet switch connection speed, finds the researcher.

HyperLight integrated optical engine pushes Terabit data with lower power consumption

To address the soaring energy consumption for Ethernet, data centers and 5G, HyperLight has designed an integrated electro-optic modulator capable of achieving sub-volt modulators with a 3-dB bandwidth > 100 GHz, a previously impossible voltage-bandwidth achievement. The broadband electro-optic PIC could lead to orders of magnitude energy consumption reduction for next generation optical networking.
