Multimode Fiber is still the front runner in modern Enterprise Data Centers as it provides a low-cost way to transport high data rates over relatively shorter or smaller distances. MMF has evolved from being optimized for multi-megabit-per-second transmission using LED light sources to being optimized for supporting multi gigabit transmission using 850m VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser), which tend to be more affordable than their single mode counterparts.

New Does Not Equal Clean

Fiber Optic Connectors need to be pristine when they are connected for several reasons. First, dirty or damaged connectors are the number one cause of network outages. Second, if a dirty or damaged connector is plugged into another connector, your problem just doubled. Lastly, if test equipment, like an OTDR, or a network element, such as a receiver, is damaged it can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to repair or replace them.

There are two types of bend-insensitivity: Millimetre-range macrobend-insensitivity and Micrometre-range microbend-insensitivity. While #BendBrightXS fibres were initially developed with macrobend-insensitivity in mind, they also outperform all other existing fibre types for microbend-insensitivity. BendBrightXS fibres support the full use of transmission bands, covering the entire wavelength spectrum: from 1260 nm to 1625 nm for data transmission, and up to 1675 nm for network monitoring.

CommScope reports COVID-19 supply chain disruptions led to soft Q1

CommScope reported that its net sales in the first quarter of 2020 increased 84.9% year over year to $2.03 billion primarily due to the contribution of $1.03 billion from the company’s ARRIS acquisition. However, on a combined company basis, net sales decreased 18.0% year over year to $2.03 billion. The company estimates that first-quarter 2020 net sales were negatively impacted by approximately $70 million related to supply chain disruptions as a result of COVID-19, as well as certain other COVID-19 related disruptions.

Valerie Maguire, distinguished engineer with Siemon, weighs on on the FCC’s allocation of spectrum in the 6-GHz band for WiFi use.“WiFi 6E is the new WiFi Alliance terminology for IEEE 802.11ax devices that are capable of operating at 6 GHz, as well as in the 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz spectra already used by WiFi 6,” she explained. “WiFi 6E devices are expected to become available quickly, as only small changes to the antennae and front ends on existing WiFi 6 devices are required.”
