The companies explain the result of this integration is “a single solution that can design, consolidate, aggregate and visualize an organization’s facilities, IT/telecom, inside-plant, outside-plant, circuits, network assets and connectivity data.”

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is the best way to increase efficiency and data density but it requires a new level of testing. Every connector, splice, MUX, DEMUX must be tested using the appropriate wavelengths and correct colored transceiver TX is received at the proper level on the RX side. When a DWDM is half full it is hard to troubleshoot with legacy test equipment which is why inline DWDM OTDR/iOLM channel testing is required.

With OM4 at a premium over OM3, many data centers and LANs not requiring the extra distance afforded by OM4 continue to deploy OM3 multimode fiber cabling, and it remains more widely deployed for that reason. And while the two fiber types can be mixed due to the same core size, there are some considerations in general when it comes to mixing multimode fiber types.

Furukawa first with high-density fiber optic cable into 1.25 inch conduit

Furukawa Electric Co has conducted an experiment in its Mie, Japan facility to demonstrate the installation of a 6912-fiber optical cable with an outer diameter of 1.14 inches (29 mm) in a 696 foot (200m) long conduit with three 90 degree curves and an inner diameter of 32mm. The conduit used was a standard product installed in conventional data center campuses. Engineers confirmed a maximum pulling tension of 84 pounds (372N), well below the maximum pulling tension of 600 pounds (2700N) specified for the cable.
