IDEAL Networks shows diverse range of cable certifiers at BICSI 2020 Winter conference

IDEAL Networks showcased its data cable, network, and IP CCTV testers and certifiers at the BICSI 2020 Winter Conference. Among the products demonstrated at the show is the company’s LanTEK IV cable certifier, which provides a 7 second test time for Cat 6a cable and certifies links up to Cat 8, including TCL and Resistance Unbalance measurements.

2020 BICSI Winter keynote panel to address changing world of ICT

The opening keynote at the Winter BICSI conference will take the form of a panel discussion, titled “Public Policy in a Changing World—How Will It Impact the ICT Professional?” The panel will discuss key topics facing ICT professionals, including: low-voltage licensing; O*NET industry classifications and code assignments; and public work development initiatives. In addition, a focus will be placed on the landscape and some of the challenges and opportunities, as well as the importance in implementing new strategies and defending competency-based programs for the design, installation and integration of ICT fields.

Understanding PoE is now crucial for electricians

PoE testers can help electricians to cost-effectively conduct quick, accurate PoE validation, eliminating guesswork while getting the job done faster. In just a few short years the use of PoE has migrated from IT devices into building systems like lighting, HVAC and access control. However, the growth of PoE presents issues for electricians, who may have never had cause to work on anything other than traditional electrical cable infrastructure.

Graybar offering scholarships for construction trades

The Graybar Construction Trades Scholarship is open to high school students and those who recently have earned a high school equivalency diploma (GED, HiSET, TASC), who will enroll full time in a community college or trade school. The goal is to increase awareness of careers in the construction trades and provide the skilled workers vital to the long-term success of the construction industry.

Why Choose an Active Fiber or Hybrid Cable?

For applications requiring long distance distribution, an active fiber/copper hybrid cable can be used as an HMDI extension. This offers all of the benefits of active optical cables without the high cost of glass active fiber cables or the constraints associated with traditional copper cables, allowing users to extend HDMI beyond 25 feet.

Understanding Propagation and Delay Skew in Cable Testing

Delay happens for all signals across all cable types, and propagation delay is the amount of time it takes for a transmitted signal to be received at the other end of the link or channel. The propagation delay in a twisted-pair copper cabling such as Category 6 or 6A is related to the nominal velocity of propagation (NVP), as well as the length of the cable and the operating frequency. You might remember from our previous blog on reading the top of a LinkWare™ report that NVP is used by your tester to calculate the length of the cable.
