The use of singlemode fiber is on the rise, driven by benefits such as increased distance and bandwidth, the connection to carrier networks and emerging SMF applications in development. With SMF comes more stringent testing requirements, because of the small core size, the need to test at 1310 and 1550 nm, and the proliferation of APC singlemode connectors, which require that the cleaning apparatus be aligned at the same 8-degree angle of the connector
Ultra High Fiber Count Solutions
Ideal for #datacenter applications, #AFLHyperscale Wrapping Tube Cable with SpiderWeb Ribbon® Technology provides the smallest cable diameter, lowest weight, and highest-fiber count ribbon cable in the industry.
A clean sweep for 5G | Fibre Systems
Clean fiber interconnects are essential to 5G performance. A fiber is only slightly thicker than a human hair, so the smallest speck of dust is detrimental to its signal path. Any contamination found on the core of the fiber – where the signal travels through – can cause back reflection, insertion loss and equipment damage. Causes include fingerprint oils, lint, moisture, exhaust fumes or simply dust.

Introduction to Hyperscale/Cloud Data Centers [SP8900] – CommScope Infrastructure Academy
This online course helps people understand their knowledge and understanding of connectivity choices and architectures for Hyperscale/Cloud Data Center infrastructure design, installation or management. The course highlights the differences that are inherent to Hyperscale data centers versus other types of data centers.
FCP2 Fiber Cleaning Kit for SC/ST/FC/LC/MPO
The FCP2 Fiber Cleaning Kit for SC/ST/FC/LC/MPO offers a complete selection of optical cleaning products for field cleaning of connector end-faces in a convenient duffle bag style carry case.
What Ever Happened to the Mechanical Splice?
While mechanical splice connectors have come a long way and are an ideal field termination method for connectorizing fiber, we rarely hear much anymore about mechanical splicing as a means for joining fibers along a link – even though it eliminates the need for expensive fusion splicing equipment. Fusion splicing, where cleaved fibers are aligned and fused by an electric arc, provides the lowest loss and strongest, most reliable joint.
3M’s expanded beam ferrule, connector system cuts dust sensitivity, reduces maintenance
3M introduced its new Expanded Beam Optical Connector System. at OFC. The Expanded Beam Optical Ferrule uses a non-contact optical coupling which, in combination with the connector design, reduces sensitivity to dust and improves signal integrity, says the company. The design reduces the need for maintenance and cleaning.
AFL Launches FOCIS Lightning Ultrafast MPO/MTP® Connector Inspection System
AFL has introduced the FOCIS Lightning Ultrafast MPO/MTP connector inspection system with twin 5M pixel CMOS sensors to image the entire MPO end face simultaneously and perform multi-fiber inspections 10 to 100 times faster than legacy systems. This full view connector end face image is displayed in less than two seconds from power-on—a capability unique in the industry.
