The global data center market’s size is poised to grow by USD $284.44 billion during the period from 2019-2023, progressing at a CAGR of more than 17% during the forecast period, according to a new report by Technavio. The analyst says the market is being driven by the rise in adoption of multi-cloud and network upgrades to support 5G. The report also finds that demand planning and expansion by “hyperscalers” is expected to boost the growth of the data center market.

Dark fiber provider United Fiber & Data is building a global data center & colocation provider” for an unknown customer in the New York City area. The facility will use 25 pairs (50 fiber strands total) of dark fiber to connect a Manhattan-based data center to the customer’s facility in Secaucus, NJ, and another data center in Newark, NJ. The dark fiber is part of UFD’s wholly owned and operated, greenfield built, low-latency network that connects the company’s more than 60-mile metro fiber-optic network in New York City, which has more than 330 buildings on net.

The data center supports and provides local connectivity, peering, and internet exchange solutions from leading network providers, including Metrotel, Silica Networks, CenturyLink, and others. It also facilitates interconnection between multiple networks and other service provider customers.
Cignal AI reports that cloud and colocation network operators in North America increased their optical systems purchases by 50% during this year’s first three months. The market research firm notes in its newly released “Optical Customer Markets Report” that other customer segments should be expected to increase purchases this year as well.

TIA will work with Certac to provide verifications of conformance to standards by independent conformity assessment bodies (CABs) that can verify data center conformity with the standards.

Equinix has opened it’s TY11 data center in Tokyo, Japan. The $70 million first phase of TY11’s construction offers 950 cabinets and colocation space of approximately 39,800 square feet. Total capacity is expected to accommodate more than 3,500 cabinets and colocation space of more than 153,800 square feet, which would make it Equinix’s largest data center in Japan. The company also operates a pair of data centers in Osaka.
