Smart buildings can be even smarter with the right technology

Interconnectivity can revolutionise the workplace, but owners must opt for use over gimmick to make smart buildings really work. A The survey of more 400 workers under the age of 45, living in Bangkok, found that 62 per cent ranked a smart security system as the most important feature, while 50 per cent said smart energy management was important to them. Smart parking was a feature supported by 47 per cent of respondents.

Economic efficiency and future-oriented IT infrastructure – how does it fit together?

Building cabling is not only an issue in the new construction of commercial properties. In many companies the existing cabling no longer corresponds to the latest state of the art. However, the requirements of current applications are high, which is why old cables can often no longer keep up. Nevertheless, many companies are postponing the renewal of their cabling infrastructure.

Technology | MyVCSEL

A vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is a semiconductor-based laser diode that emits a highly efficient optical beam vertically from its top surface. VCSELs differ from other common semiconductor optical sources such as Edge Emitting Lasers (EEL) that emit light from the side and Light Emitting Diodes (LED) that emit light from all directions. VCSELs technology  brings together the advantages of low cost and optical efficiency within a small footprint.

LAN is First Line of Defense in Emergency

It may be difficult to manage the explosive growth in network systems integrated into the enterprise LAN along with the ubiquitous use of smartphones and mobile apps. But, on the plus side, the diversity of connected devices and systems gives us more tools than ever when it comes to safeguarding lives and property. In an emergency, in-building wireless enables those who are trapped or endangered to call for help; security cameras can identify and locate intruders; and environmental sensors alert building occupants at the first signs of fire.
