Reduce IoT Cybersecurity Risks with Standards

Widespread IoT adoption creates more entry points into corporate networks, inherently expanding the cyberattack surface. Due to their specialized nature and limited computational ability, IoT devices are highly vulnerable, which hampers the integration of adequate security measures. To help protect networks, TIA published the first-ever global Cybersecurity and Supply Chain Security Standard (SCS 9001), to verify that networks and their supporting hardware and software components and subcomponents meet critical security benchmarks to mitigate the risk of cybersecurity attacks.

Everything You Need to Know: TIA Standard adds MPO Test Requirements and Procedures

In their latest revision (September 2022), the Telecom Industry Association (TIA) added MPO test requirements and procedures to their optical fiber cabling component standard, ANSI/TIA-568.3-E.
The revision adds MPO-specific requirements referencing TIA-526-28. TIA-526-28 is an adoption of IEC 61280-4-5 and deals with attenuation measurement of MPO-terminated fiber optic cabling plant using test equipment with MPO interfaces.

TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Measurement of Optical Power Loss of Installed Single-Mode Fiber Cable Plant

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.11 Engineering Committee on Optical Systems has issued a call for interest for document TIA-526.7-A initially titled ” Measurement of Optical Power Loss of Installed Single-Mode Fiber Cable Plant, Adoption of IEC 61280-4-2 edition 2: Fibre-Optic Communications Subsystem Test Procedures – Part 4-2: Installed Cable Plant – Single-Mode Attenuation and Optical Return Loss Measurement”.
TR-42.11 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: “This standard is applicable to the measurement of attenuation and optical return loss of installed optical fiber cable plant containing single-mode fiber. The principles of this standard may be applied to cable plants containing branching devices (splitters) and at specific wavelength ranges in situations where passive wavelength selective components are deployed, such as WDMs, CWDM and DWDM devices. This standard is not intended to apply to cable plant that includes active devices such as fiber amplifiers or dynamic channel equalizers.

The Beyondtech Guide for Fiber Optics Testing (PART II): Insertion Los

Insertion loss is the ratio of received to inserted signal power at the end of a cable and is dominated by the cable’s attenuation. Measuring Insertion Loss per TIA-568B helps you determine whether a cable’s transmitting capacity has been compromised by poor installation practices such as an inadequate polished or dirty connector or a cable that was installed to go around a corner that didn’t meet the minimum bend radius.
