Rosenberger OSI will offer the Miniature Duplex Connector (MDC) as part of the company’s PreCONNECT fiber cabling systems which will increase the density of its fiber cable offerings. The MDC push-pull duplex connector is based on 1.25-mm all-ceramic ferrule technology. It is a Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) fiber connector that can be used as a media dependent interface (MDI) or optical interface for SFP-DD and QSFP-DD optical transceivers.
New 5-pole M8 (Pico) quick-disconnect cables from AutomationDirect.com are available with axial or right-angle female connectors and pigtail wiring in 1.5, 5 and 10 meter cable lengths. The quick-disconnect cables have a 3, 4 or 5-socket M8 female connector on one end and 3, 4 or 5 open leads on the other end to provide fast and easy connection between field devices and terminal connections. A “lock in place” nickel plated brass or zinc coupling nut resists high levels of shock and vibration.
Corning® CleanAdvantage™ technology uses a new factory cleaning and sealing process to ensure a pristine end face upon first use for all our EDGE™ and EDGE8® solutions. Thus, saving you as the installer time and money during the initial installation. So go ahead and uncap that CleanAdvantage connector so that you can connect with confidence.
As the Internet of Things continues to expand, connector companies are embracing diversification and establishing new areas of expertise, including antennas, active optical devices, electronic sensors, and packaging services.
Should Should light leak through the fiber that’s inserted into the connecter when I use a visual fault locator?
The VFL source launches overfilled light that will surround the core of the bare fiber and extend into and through the cladding, flooding the inside of the connector body. This is normal and does not necessarily mean the fiber is damaged. The amount of light can vary by fiber and connector type. To visually check the quality of a termination, verify the intensity and quality of light exiting the opposite end of the cable under test. If the light is weak or non-existent, a damaged connector or fiber may exist.
Rosenberger OSI and FiberCon are working together to develop an MTP®/MPO version of FiberCon’s CrossCon® system to further optimize data center operations.
Korea’s OptoNest has unveiled an optical MPO splitter that features an LC-type connector input and a 12-channel MPO connector as the output port. The splitter, which conforms to TIA/EIA 604-5 and IEC 61754-7 standards and is suitable for RoHS requirements, measures 82x12x8 mm and is designed to remove the chance of performance degradation from bending or folding of the optical fiber cable. The splitter is designed not to expose the fiber-optic cable in between. OptoNest is aiming the splitter at fiber to the home (FTTH) and 5G mobile network applications.
Swick Designs’ new SWK Connector is a self-cleaning and self-protecting connector that accommodates polarity change with a single flip and boasts low-loss performance. A unique characteristic is the SWK’s rotating, covered Shield Shroud that cleans the ferrule endfaces and protects them from contaminants. Swick Designs says the Shield Shroud reduces debris and contaminants up to 98.99%.
