Report: COVID-19 disruptions will drop 5G network infrastructure revenues by 10%

COVID-19 pandemic disruptions will cause 2020 5G network infrastructure revenues to fall by as much as 10% of a forecasted US $2.1 billion, according to global technology market advisory firm ABI Research. As stated by the analyst, “The outbreak of COVID-19 has created a crippling effect, not only on service industries, but also on manufacturing enterprises, including 5G infrastructure vendors.”

AFL engineers 3D-printed face shields for COVID-19 frontline workers

AFL is supporting efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by creating face shields for the medical industry.Using 3D printing technology, more than 100 face shields engineered by the manufacturer have been sent to local hospitals in South Carolina, including the Spartanburg Medical Center, Pelham Medical Center and another upstate hospital, with more expected to be printed and dispersed.

HARTING Americas announces launch of breakthrough Single Pair Ethernet technology

Harting Americas has launched their Single Pair Ethernet technologies.SPE communicates across the common industrial Ethernet protocols available today but instead of using 4 or 8 total wires, it accomplishes communication across just two wires, a single twisted pair. It uses Power over Data Line technology to bring communication to the device along with the voltage and amperage needed to power the device. This is hugely beneficial for three reasons:. First, space and number of connections are reduced on the device. Second, the need for an external power supply is eliminated. Finally, devices on the plant floor that have traditionally communicated over Fieldbus protocols can now join the same IP-based network that the rest of the devices on the network are using. This enables peer-to-peer communication, open-loop feedback of all devices, and smart functionality all the way from the main control room down to the individual device.

Soptco has introduced a Four-Channel, Pluggable, LC Duplex, Fiber-Optic QSFP+ Transceiver for 40 Gigabit Ethernet Applications. This high-performance transceiver integrates four electrical data lanes in each direction into transmission over a single LC duplex fiber optic cable. The transceiver internally multiplexes an XLPPI 4x10G interface into two 20Gb/s electrical channels, transmitting and receiving each optically over one simplex LC fiber using bi-directional optics. Link distances up to 100 m using OM3 and 150m using OM4 optical fiber are supported. These modules operate over multimode fiber systems using a nominal wavelength of 850nm on one end and 900nm on the other end.
