Nokia, Etisalat conduct single-carrier terabit optical transmission field trial

Nokia and Etisalat have conducted the first field trial of single-carrier terabit optical transmission. The collaborators conducted the 1-Tbps transmission on a deployed fiber-network in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), transmitting a total of 50.8 Tbps via multiple wavelengths, each with a net information rate of 1.3 Tbps, over a 93-km fiber route. The optical transmissions were based on a single optical carrier operating at 100 Gbaud and Nokia Bell Labs-pioneered probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS).

Threat Hunting. The Best Security Intelligence & Threat Hunting Tools

Threat hunting is a focused and iterative approach used to proactively detect and eliminate threats that may have evaded traditional security tools. These threats include attacks or malware that infiltrate a business or organization’s network, leading to stolen intellectual property or personal information of customers and employees. As the complexity of network architecture has increased, the sophistication of “bad actors” perpetrating cyber-crimes has followed suit, making threat hunting an important and fast-growing element of the cyber security landscape.

Connectivity is key for warehouse automation

Digital transformation is coming to a warehouse near you. In fact, it may already be in place. Consider this: there were 4,000 robotic warehouses in operation worldwide last year. By 2025, four million commercial robots will be at work in 50,000 warehouses across the globe, forecasts say. That’s a 12-fold increase in the span of just six years. The key to the success for a smart warehouse? Not the robots. Or the management systems. It’s connectivity that is making the industrial internet of things (IIoT) a reality on a massive scale. 4G LTE and 5G networks are up to the task.

Webinar: Ready for Four Pair PoE?

New devices based on the 802.3bt standard will supply up to 90 watts over four twisted pairs, supporting a new generation of PoE-supported devices. This webinar will give you the background you need to specify, install and troubleshoot these devices, including: How it Works, Cable Bundling Considerations, Field Termination Considerations, Cabling Performance, and Installing and Troubleshooting.

Game Changer in Smart Building Safety

Smart homes are not just smart thermostats and bulbs, but also personal security. A new collaboration between RapidSOS, an emergency technology company, and 911inform, a cloud-based notification and security management platform for buildings and municipalities, will connect smart buildings with 9-1-1 dispatchers during a crisis.

Internet pioneers imagine the next 50 years

People who have had the internet at their fingertips since birth can find it difficult to imagine a world in which information and communication are not readily available with a quick click or swipe or voice command to a phone. The following insights come from respected pioneers – many of them inductees to the Internet Hall of Fame – who were present during the birth and infancy of the internet.

Sumitomo Electric, Senko partner on AirMT noncontact multi-fiber connector technology

Sumitomo Electric and Senko have partnered on new AirMT multi-fiber optical connectors which offer an alternative to physical contact multi-fiber optical connectivity, as found in such formats as MPO connectors. AirMT connectors eliminate the problem with  traditional MPO connectors, which require high spring force to achieve physical contact for MT-to-MT ferrules, and suffer from high sensitivity to dust contamination.
